LONDON
My home away from home - and the only place that’s ever truly felt like mine
Hi fashion lovers,
This post is long overdue. I’ve written about style, ambition and the art of getting dressed, but I’ve never properly dedicated a piece to the city that shaped all of it. The city I love more than any other, the one that has always felt like home - even before I lived here.
London has a way of making you feel entirely like yourself. Not a louder version, not a smaller version, but the truest one. It is a big city, undeniably busy and constantly in motion, yet it carries a sense of ease that makes it feel deeply personal. There is always something happening, somewhere to be, something new to discover, but the pace never feels aggressive. Instead, it feels alive.
What I love most is how welcoming it is. For a city of this size, London feels surprisingly warm. People smile when you pass them on the street, they hold doors open, they thank the bus driver and there is an everyday kindness here that makes the city feel human. You are allowed to exist as you are. No one demands that you explain yourself, tone yourself down, or fit into a particular mould. You can dress how you want, speak how you want, move how you want. There is space here for individuality and that freedom is powerful.
Of course, London has everything a major city should have - parks, restaurants, shopping, culture - but it delivers them in a way that feels exceptional rather than expected. The parks feel cinematic, the restaurants feel intentional and the shopping is not just about consumption but about expression. Fashion lives in this city in a way that feels effortless. People do not wait for a special occasion to dress well. They treat an ordinary Tuesday like it deserves a good coat and polished shoes. Style here is not performance - it is instinct.
The architecture alone makes me fall in love repeatedly. Historic buildings stand confidently beside modern structures and the contrast somehow works. Walking through different neighbourhoods feels like travelling through different eras, yet it all belongs together. There is grandeur, but there is also charm. There is tradition, but there is also reinvention. That balance is very London.
Yes, it can be chaotic, it can be crowded and there are moments when the noise and pace feel intense. People often talk about crime or the risks of living in such a large city and while those realities exist, they exist everywhere. What I feel here, more than anything, is a sense of comfort. I feel aware, but not afraid. The city has a rhythm that you learn and once you understand it, it carries you.
It is also one of the most diverse places I have ever experienced and that diversity is part of what makes it so dynamic. You can walk down a single street and hear five different languages. You can pass someone singing on the corner, friends laughing outside a pub, coworkers finishing a long day with a beer in hand. There is an energy here that suggests people are not just existing - they are living. They go out to eat, they gather, they celebrate small things. The pubs are always full, especially after work, and there is something comforting about that ritual.
More than anything, London feels like happiness to me. Not a loud, overwhelming happiness, but a steady, grounding one. It feels like belonging, it feels like growth, and it feels like possibility. It is the city that makes me excited about my future while allowing me to feel at home in the present.
I have loved this city from afar and I love it even more now that I get to call it mine. Some places entertain you, some places impress you, but very few places shape you. London has shaped me, my style, my ambition and my sense of self and for that, it will always be the city I love most.
xx,
HM
